the parable of the Cookie...lived by Justin

Then he looked up and saw church folk, good-doers, owners of inner city ministries thinking they had a God franchise doling out God on their terms. Then he saw a poor young man, long hair, a infectious smile filled with broken teeth...handing out a package of Oreo cookies. " The plain truth is that this young man has given by far the largest offering today. All these other people made offering they'll never miss. But this young man gave extravagantly, infectiously filled with joy, and grace what he could barely afford. If they had the eyes to see...they would have seen the Kingdom in there midst. ( paraphrase Luke 21: 1-4 )

Justin is part of Victoria's street community that we've have seen every week for years. One Sunday a few weeks ago he bought some cookies to give out...and…

the Kingdom...knocking for justice

Suppose you have a friend who comes to you in the middle of the night, pounding on your front door. All, snuggled and comfy in your warm bed you hear him calling, " Hey neighbor, how about lending me three loaves of bread? A friend of mine has just arrived at my house and I have nothing to serve him."

Arghhhh!!! You pull the blankets over your head and call out, " Please don't disturb me! I've already locked the door and the wife and kids are sound a sleep. I can't get up and let you have anything."

Knock, knock...knock, knock...knock...the presistent late night vistor still rapping on the door.

I really believe that even though you won't get up and let him have something out of friendship for him, you'll crawl out of bed and let him have whatever he needs if he keeps yelling and pounding on the door.

So that's why I'm telling you, start asking and it will be…

Open Letter to Mark Driscoll From An Effeminate Anatomically Male Worship Leader

Hi Mark,

We don't know each other, but from what I understand you'd like personal stories from your Facebook friends about "the most effeminate anatomically male worship leaderyou've ever personally witnessed."  Is this true?  Because an hour or so after you posted that message, you took it down.  Bummer.  I figured if you were interested in stories about such persons, you'd probably really like to hear directly from one such person.

Of course, I am assuming a few things about the nature of the request, since it came from an anointed, ordained minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, no doubt seeking to live out the Gospel Message to the very observant world in which such messages are posted, that (and stop me if I'm wrong on…

Why Language is a "Litmus Test" for the Heart

Last week I posted a few examples of why language matters–because it seeps into our living, because the words we speak become incarnate in our walk. I firmly believe that our diction, the vocabulary that we choose, has moral and eternal reverberations.

Instead of explaining myself, I’ll let the Word speak for itself:

Matthew 12:36 “[Jesus] said, ‘I tell you that on the day of judgment, people will give an account for every worthless word they speak.’”

1 Peter 3:10, “”Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit…”

James 1:26, “If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.”

Luke 6:45 “The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored…

the parable of the muslim...and the beaten gay man

There once was a gay man, that everyone in the city knew, who was travelling from James Bay to Oak Bay. On the way he was attacked by thugs. They took his clothes, beat him up, and went off leaving him half-dead. Luckily a Pentecostal Pastor was on his way travelling down the same road, but when he saw him …See More
